Chula, Chola & Hot Cheetos. Tote Bag
IYKYK. This one’s for the girls who grew up with Hot Cheeto fingers and zero tolerance for disrespect—the ones who were too loud, too bold, too much, and learned to love themselves anyway. 🌶️
I grew up with them too, though I didn’t really discover them until middle school, when my friends started sharing their bags at lunch. “Chula, Chola & Hot Cheetos” isn’t just a vibe; it’s a whole cultural archive. A generation of mujeres reclaiming their softness, their edge, and their fire. It’s Eastside pride, hallway hustle, and a love letter to the chulas who were sweet pero spicy, the cholas who weren’t to be messed with, and anyone who ever cried over a novela while snacking on something flaming hot. Some people eat them daily (or used to), probably wrecking their stomachs long-term, because let’s be honest, the Hot Cheeto addiction is real. I go through my on-and-off Hot Cheeto weeks myself. Not the best for you, but sometimes that’s just where my serotonin needs to come from.
I myself wasn’t very chola; more timid, introverted, and I came into my own in my later years. But that didn’t mean the toughness wasn’t there. As an adult, Hot Cheetos have been an instrumental part of coping with, well... adulthood. And every time I eat them, I think of the one other Latina—or who felt like the only other Mexican—in my dorm building at NYU during grad school, who once brought me one of those 50-cent bags. It was comforting and delicious. A little piece of L.A. at NYU; and all the homesickness, the stress, the anxiety, the random bursts of crying on the subway, the late nights studying, the feeling out of place at such an amazing institution... it all hurt a little less. We’re still friends to this day.
Oh, and we may have gastritis or stomach issues now—because of course we do, we’re millennials: cheeto dust and all. 🌶️
A playful, powerful tribute to the duality of being soft and strong, sweet and fierce. An homage to the cholas and chulas who were inside us all along. Perfect for carrying snacks, our chanclas, dreams, or a little generational healing, because LA girlies carry it all. 🌶️
