Well, haven't we all been called a "loca" at some point in our lives? I sure have—and honestly, it's now a compliment, one I'll happily accept with a "¿y qué?!"
 
I tend not to call others that myself, since it's a sensitive word that shouldn't be thrown around sporadically as discourse and PC language have evolved over the years. But for me? I've learned to accept it and wear the badge proudly. It's also about embracing a word that's been used for generations in Latino history—I'm sure your abuela, and her bisabuela before her, knew it or got called one too.
 
I always joke that I would've been right there in the witch trials, because they probably would've thought I was a loca.
